Golden!

When the era of gauzy underwear fashion shows was about to take off, Rhum Palermo was one of the most daring ones who forgot to wear his jockeys but tried to gussy up for the cameras anyways. He was part of the first fashion show [five years ago] at the old O Bar in Malate, which see-through extravaganza started the flimsy- bikini-show monomania. For publicity photos of the event, Rhum Palermo [who now uses his real name Golden P__, sounds like Palermo] unabashedly posed for the cameras, stripped and stark-naked. He now works for a major broadcasting company, according to generous sources.

The Man in the Lighthouse

Many readers got clocked up asking me more about the new member of Provoq, Harry Chua. All I can give the angry mob though was the 411 on the guy winning Heatwave Bikini Open and nothing more. It’s a grand thing Lex Bonife emailed me more info and images of the cute chinito. Apparently, Harry Chua will now carry the screen name Harry Laurel, and he will play the lead in Viva Entertainment’s newest gay full-length feature called “Ang Lalake Sa Parola” [The Man in the Lighthouse]. Lex Bonife wrote the Screenplay and it is directed by tv and film director Joselito Altarejos.

According to Lex, the film will be released in August, 2007, and despite of it having “several scenes with frontal nudity, close up of an erected male sex organ and graphic sex scenes” it has been approved WITHOUT CUTS by the MTRCB for video release.

Here’s the synopsis of the movie: A homo-erotic journey in finding one’s true self Mateo (Harry Laurel) has been searching for his father (Richard Quan) who left when he was five. His search leads him to Lobo, Batangas only to discover that his father is in Dubai. Awaiting his father’s return, Mateo works as the caretaker of Lobo’s lighthouse. Here, he meets Jerome (Justin de Leon), a gay man from the city. What ensues soon after the meeting is the beginning of his homoerotic journey, while Suzet (Jennifer Lee), Mateo’s girlfriend struggles for his love and attention. What begins as a search for one’s father evolves into a search for one’s self. Will Mateo, in the midst of his conservative rural community, cross the thin line between being straight and being gay? This story is a search for oneself as seen through the lens of rural homosexuality, myths, and fairies (superstitions/belief?); and the lies that people create to escape the bitter realities of life.

Comeback: Mike Magat

The go-to actor in the 90s for the mannish-but-gentle-giant roles was Mike Magat [with more than 30 flicks in a 10-year career]. The strapping stud of the era of Philippine soft porn films is once again in the limelight, this time as the boyfriend-in-the-past denied by FHM Magazine’s back-to-back Sexiest Woman in the Philippines, Katrina Halili. Movie reporters who had compos mentis recently asked Katrina Halili about Mike Magat, and she readily denied him, saying she did not know him from Adam. Mike Magat, as the gentleman, just shrugged the whole thing off. Or at least shrugged it off with specific comments like: They were neighbors in Haligue, Tondo; her mom is Chinese and dad is Filipino; her family was in the business of selling birds’ nests for that famous soup; she always wanted to be an actress, etc. In any case, Mike Magat just happened to stage a showbiz comeback, after his long working stint in Japan. And quite a resurgence it is!

Bikini Frenzy! Adrian Asor

Twenty-two year old Adrian Asor started out as a teen model for tv and print commercials, before donning the teenie-weenie bikini [and winning the title] at the Bikini Frenzy 2007 contest, the first bikini competition held at Ricky Reyes’ Golden Sunset Resort and Spa in Calatagan, Batangas. A few days after winning the title, he went back to Manila to join the Heatwave 2007 [another summer bikini outing], where he finished runner-up to Harry Chua [ see previous post].

The Men of Provoq are back! [new member Harry Chua]

The newest member of the Men of Provoq is Harry Chua, grand winner of the Heatwave 2007 – A Summer Bikini Showdown, which was held at the Garden Resort of Metropolis Star Alabang in May this year. For his baptism of fire in the group, he will be part of the group’s bare-all show called Cruise, which takes on the theme of showcasing different continents and regions of the world. The show will also be logged as the second video of the Men of Provoq, so expect saucy and spunky performances from the cast members.

He should be in Provoq

I received on my email one of these photos from purititiwang and I thought it would be worth reposting here. Joel Posadas aka Jeric Martinez aka Carlos Martinez should be on Provoq Men, with his derring-do in flaunting his accouterments and appurtenances. He lists his real name as Juan Carlos Mhartez, born in Pangasinan province on July 30, 1984 [Happy Birthday!]. He has appeared as an extra in the big-budget filmfest movie Exodus, and as bit player in the rival networks’ soaps and shows. Too, he has modeled for mall shows and runway shows for designers, aside from his appearances in bikini contests. With his experience in the biz, surely Joel Posadas can easily fit in the skin of a Provoq Man.

The Men of Provoq are back! [Johnron Tañada]

Reputedly the biggest among the Men of Provoq, Johnron is from Quezon province. He was studying to be a seaman at the Technological Institute of the Philippines [TIP] when he decided to join “personality” contests. His claim to bikinidom fame is winning the Mr. Globe Philippines 2005, where he was discovered. His stint as a member of the flaunt-to-taunt group, Men of Provoq, has paved the way for his popularity among the gay pop. A bare-skinned Johnron will next be seen in the upcoming show of the Men of Provoq, entitled Cruise.

This guy looks like Piolo Pascual

Rico Lazaro was one of the contestants in the recently-held Mister Philippines 2007. Pageant host Angel Aquino took note of him because of his uncanny resemblance onstage to actor Piolo Pascual. The 27-year old freelance model has joined and won several bikini pageants prior to his stint at the Mister Philippines pageant. In 2005, this Cavite province-native won the Mr. Young Philippines-World title. His best friend is Ginoong Pilipinas 2007 winner and Mister Philippines near-miss, Dennis Barrion aka Denver Olivarez, also from Cavite.

The Science of Sleep

One of the simple pleasures of a slow Sunday evening is watching movies at home, slouched on the couch, with the gloom of Monday coming up. I got to see The Science of Sleep earlier, which movie is about an artist [played by the visually ethereal Gael Garcia Bernal] “with a tenuous grip on reality.” It is all about blurring the lines between reality and fantasy [or dreams, in this case]. Sitting through the film drove me nuts because I could not even decipher at once between the real and the imagined in this film. Nevertheless, I must say that the movie was engaging and enjoyable. You should see it, too.

Model above is Justin Arrojo aka Athoz Arrojo, last seen at the Mister Philippines 2007 finals night, among the audience. UPH was nudging me all the time about the curly-haired hunk in sleeveless tee and tight jeans — with a swishy geezer in tow. They also left together, along with UPH’s comments that the pantywaist fossil merely wanted to flaunt his boy-prize among his pansy peers. Ooh, mean like J., this UPH.

The Aga Muhlach Diet

When this new photo of Aga Muhlach was distributed to the press recently, many were
quite impressed by the loss of weight of the erstwhile fleshy actor. Yet, some also credited
Photoshop as the culprit in the new look of the actor. His handlers were quick to note that
noted photographer Jun de Leon, who snapped the photo, abhors digitally manipulating
his pictures. And besides, Aga Muhlach went on a diet-and-exercise regimen for a new movie.

This photo was taken last month at the Lago de Oro Resort in Calatagan, Batangas,
where the 37-year old actor went water skiing with his good friends. Judging from the
candid photo, Aga’s diet sure made some dents and cuts in the proper places. The actor
reportedly lost 50 lbs [from 225lbs to 175lbs], after a rigid 6-month high-protein and
zero-fat-salt-sugar diet coupled with a 6-day/week training at the gym.

Aga Muhlach is shown above for a photo shoot with another famous photog Steve Tirona for
MetroHIM magazine, that oh-so-gay magazine published by ABS-CBN Publishing. Aga has been
visible nowadays to promote his new movie, tentatively titled “I Don’t Want You to Go
or “Love Affair” with Maricel Soriano and Angelica Panganiban.
