The Real Big Star

He is an excellent actor and performer. People love him for his talent and looks and charm. Piolo Pascual is indeed the real big star of his generation. Now that he’s appearing in a new prime time soap for ABS-CBN, Lovers in Paris, the PR slant is that he’s courting yet again the female lead of the series. He says that he prefers “to court KC Concepcion the traditional way.” The thing is, we love Piolo. But it is such a drag [no innuendo intended, really] to hear such things over and over – that he’s making moves to be romantically close to the female lead. This happens every time there is a new movie or soap for the matinee idol. It’s exasperating because nobody seems to care anymore about the second-guessing on the actor’s preference or orientation. It doesn’t matter, really, because he is a great and handsome talent.

  1. It will matter if he reveals his sexual orientation. Do uyou think he will get tv offer like that if he would “come out.” Be real!

  2. I agree. Piolo Pascual has surpassed the popularity of every matinee idol that Philippine showbiz has produced. I just hope he doesn’t use “THAT” tactic anymore. Maybe Mister M of ABS-CBN should advise Papa P on this matter. Just the same, we still love Piolo. Very well said RD.

We are in the 21st century. Tanggap na ang ikatlong kasarian. Be Proud sisters… Be Proud Papa Piolo

  6. i agree 100% percent. gwapo sya at magaling umarte, di pa ba enough ang ganung merits? kailangan pa ba ng mga ganyang promo eh wala namang naniniwala? haller, to the ABS CBN PR people, wake up na. No one’s buying it. kung gusto ninyo gumawa ng ingay for his upcoming projects, think of something else. yung believable naman kahit papaano.

  7. i beg to differ.

john lloyd cruz is the real star of his generation.

minus juday, has piolo’s films made mints at the box-office? his lobo with angel underpeformed. be it on the small or big screen, i believe piolo has ceased to become a credible romantic leading man. he is one fine actor though and there will always be good character roles for him.

john lloyd, on the other hand, has won the box-office king crown twice in a row. and he might just wear it again a third time next year. while initially identified with bea, his recent outings with sarah turned into huge, huge hits. on television, his betty la fea likewise had great following.

and john lloyd is a darn good actor, one not limited to romantic lead types. he’s playing gay in his next film, a testimony not only to his thespic talent but also to his dedication to his craft.

sorry piolo. you’re beautiful and talented but no male star is bigger than john lloyd right now.

  8. Yan ang talagang BIG STAR. No doubt about it.

  9. guys, dont be stupid enough. Even though we are in 21st century, some people or groups are not ready in what do you call 3rd sex, to name them – conservatives, church and uneducated. to be honest, i dont care if Piolo is gay (kung umamin man xa or kung bading tlg xa). what if he revealed himself to be gay? frankly, people will be intrigued to see piolo portray a role of a leading man with a leading lady in a love story. The story will be spoiled because of his gayness

  10. c jlc?

    real big star?

    pakantahin mo nga siya?

    kaya ba?

    hakhakhak

i love you, RD este PIOLO pala.

GMA ARE YOU THE NEXT BIG STAR ba yun? every saturday ha 7PM hosted by regine velasquez, watch ka ha and ivite all your friends and family to watch also…

  12. All right, all right. John Lloyd Cruz is the curent big star of ABS-CBN. And he’s great-looking and charming and acts well (but in his last movie with Sarah, predictable na ang mga atake niya).

But Papa Piolo is still above them all. Just because his last movie or TV show was weak doesn’t mean he’s not king anymore. His accomplishments as star — and as actor — have yet to be matched by anybody of his or younger genration.

So who are the three kings of ABS-CBN? My answer is this: Piolo Pascual, John Lloyd Cruz, and Gerald Anderson.

But please don’t ask me if these three kings are bigger than the emperors who reign in the other network, namely, Richard Gutierrez and Dingdong Dantes.

You reek of desperation!

  16. nakakasuka lang ang stories niya. it is the same story everytime he has something to promote. nililigawan daw niya ang leading actress sa project, pero wala naman talaga. you have to be so stupid to believe his invented stories. a thirty something man with not one girlfriend since he started showbiz. give me a break, it is getting too old and he is getting old. he should just keep quiet when is comes to ligawan stories, it is embarassing for his leading actresses. what’s with those nips anyway? they look like warts.

  17. My complement to the photog of this shoot. At least he knows how to shoot Piolo’s good side. Piolos face is not symmetrical. His left eye is smaller and lower than his right eye and his left upper lip is much thinner than his right upper lip. But with good lighting and by emphasizing his right side this lack of symmetry can be minimized.

  18. If he ‘comes-out-of-the-closet’
… definitely his career will be in turmoil

sana naman kasi kung me promote kayong movie or anything wag ng mangechos na kesyo nililigawan o kaya may nararamdaman kasi sobrang trash na to eh .. why dont u just promote the content of the movie itself

  20. John Lloyd Cruz!? Maybe he was heading to stardom before until now that he has hooked up with the amazona (R.G.)— i must say his star is ‘fading’ na rin. He used to be a very stylish guy (thanks to ex-GF Liz Uy) but now, he’s gaining back his baby fats and a hairstyle that has “got to go!”

  21. If he comes out of the closet, he may have to go the way of Rustum Padilla before he morphed to become Bb Gandanghari.

Do you honestly think that in the Philippine society where most big time advertisers and movie producers and even the public at large still do not accept gays outside of it’s portrayal as a screaming “parlolista” will still be getting his services as an image model or product endorser?

I don’t think so…and it is precisely that fear that is hindering Mr. Pascual (or for that matter, the executives of the network that handles him) from coming out. Rustom Padilla after his coming out of the closet had to content himself with doing minor roles already portraying him as an “out” gay guy. Eventually, he had to reinvent himself as BB Gandanghari to make himself more visible, albeit as a crossdresser, this time.

Imagine Mr Pascual taking that same path. As the popular soda tv commercials had put it beautifully: it is possible. Or perhaps the TVC’s of yet another popular electronics brand has wisely used in their ads: It’s not that hard to imagine.

  22. There are several issues here and they are, I think to a certain extent related. First, this is the 21st century, if we want society to change and perceive being gay as something positive, then I firmly and sincerely believe showbiz might cast the first light.

Unfortunately it is an enigma and an irony, that showbiz itself ( at least mainstream) is the one perpetuating the stereotypes. Gays are more often than not portrayed as the parlolista and related genres.

The indie film has made progress in the portrayal of gay men. Such films has pictured the gay men as human beings with a story to tell and have significant human experiences to share.

One comment about Piolo Pascual is correct, he is by far the most magnetic actors around. But to play up his heterosexuality is deceiving the public. I’m nnot saying he should be open and be “proud” of it. We all have issues about our being gay, but do not use references to being straight when it is no longer credible.

About Rustom Padilla, he should have come out during his macho days, when he is being idolized and the object of everyone’s fantasy. To me, that is a perfect example of not buying in to the stereotype. That being gay is not limited to being parlolista and its related roles and the “screaming faggot”. Regardless of how we act, if we have a persistent attraction affection and emotional attachment to another man, then we are gay period.

I hope one day, these invisible barriers dissapear, and that everyone will realize that in the spectrum of being gay, seen as a contiuum we occupy various points along the continuum.

Let us celebrate who we are because we have come a long long way. After all gay pride was just celebrated last saturday.

If and when Piolo Pascual will come out, his greatness will never be diminsihed, he will and forever be the great actor that he is. It is about time that the public be educated that actors play a role and and the industry should be in the forefront of this education.

  26. God he is still papa P gwapito! i love Papa Piolo! yung mga bading dyan gustong maging bading si piolo lol kung makapagcomment eh. mga pakshet kayong lahat! i love piolo!!!

Well loved child actor. And convincingly! Dito sa Pilipinas, you can be out and proud and handsome, pero hindi ka pwede sa straight roles? Niloloko mo raw ang audience by pretending you like a girl na kaeksena mo (not real life ha). Hello, it’s called acting or pretending.
