Hot, hot, hot! That’s Robby Cubacub under the summer sun. And although the heat’s turned up high, 5’10”-tall Robby is still solid and stiff, er, stable in midday fun. A native of Porac, Pampanga, Robby has been in a few bikini contests lately, such as the Mr. Sexy Body 2009 contest of Sta. Lucia East Grand Mall. Although he didn’t win, Robby’s planning to be visible in this summer’s hodge-podge of underthings-and-thongs competitions. With the sexy mien and well-sculpted bod [plus a scandalous swelling!] he’ll surely win one of those contests pretty soon.
Here’s one guy who nearly made it. Sort of the shoulda-woulda-coulda type who somehow had it going early in his career only to be waylaid by wrong trips and turns [and tricks, perhaps]. Ian Porlayagan graduated from the small and sleazy bar bikini contests when he won Mister Philipines-International two years ago. It could have been a big boost to his modeling career, except that nothing happened after that. The next year, he competed again – oddly enough – in the same contest that would send a rep to the Mister International pageant in Taiwan. He didn’t win. His unlucky streak continued as he also lost at the Body Shots 2008 contest. Right now, he’s doing go-sees for designers and commercial brands hoping to make it big soon. His photo shoot for gay mag Frontman Reloaded in the Racho mold is still unreleased.
Tall, dark and handsome Alvin Aguilar is our Tuesday treat! Twenty-one-year-old Alvin is a busy model these days – as he’s in-demand for fashion shows and shoots lately. This 5’11”-tall hunk is a proud Abaknon, an ethnolinguistic group in the island-town of Capul in Northern Samar. His unique features has landed him prime stints in local clothing brand Folded & Hung’s Streetcast Fashion Show and at the annual Cosmopolitan [Phils] Bachelors Bash.
In 2006, fearless Will Sandejas burst into the scene through the Hataw Super Bodies Bikini Open. He finished first runner-up to cute guy Racel Matic [I wonder where he is now?] while Dexter Castro placed second runner-up. Will Sandejas went on to star in Sikil and now the still-unreleased Oliver – Kung Ako Ikaw indie flick. This summer, Will’s coming back to Hataw not as a contestant but as a performer [he’s a singer, too] in the finals night, which will be held on 25 April 2009 at the Techno Wave Bar along Tomas Morato Ave. in Quezon City. I think the cute Cappuccinos will also be there.
Last year’s winner in summer’s biggest contest of guys in bikinis, Hataw Super Bodies, was Ryan Dungo [aka JC Dungo]. The Cappuccinos member was the surprise winner in 2008, as he outstripped other bikini pageant veterans and newbies in the competition. On Sunday, 8 March 2009, there will be a go-see for contestants as Super Bodies Bikini Open will be launched at the 4th Floor of the National Press Club Building [the one at the foot of Jones Bridge, in Intramuros, Manila]. According to the organizers, this contest will be open for girls and boys, who must bring swimwear during the auditions. The finals night will be on 25 April 2009 at Techno Wave Bar along Tomas Morato Ave. in Quezon City. For more details, call 0923.6491784 or 476.4088.
Another delish male model and bikini pageant veteran who’s making waves in the gambling capital of Asia is 25-year-old Michael “Mike” Hoo. A graduate of the Mapua Institute of Technology, the 6′-tall model is now an OFW in Macau with the Johnron, Jude Marco and a host of other handsome Filipinos. While in Manila, he joined underwear-and-speedo contests and did a very daring indie movie called Troika.
Twenty-eight-year-old Cherroy Curamen won a title last year at Lips Bar’s monthly contests. He was in previous bikini competitions from Zambales to Heatwave Bikini Showdown [where Harrison Chua won]. This 5’11”-tall freelance model had to go the Lips Bar route to finally snag a title in a bikini [or, lack of it] contest. He is reportedly now in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia working in a restaurant.
Twenty-year-old Rei Hernandez snatched the title Mr. Sexy Body 2009, the first bikini contest for the year ushering in the summer season. The contest, which is an annual event sponsored by the Sta. Lucia East Grand Mall, featured 13 guys in skimpy underwear, all vying for the P50,000.00 cash prize. In the end, it was Rei Hernandez who romped off with the title. Rei is a student at the Far Eastern University in Manila. This is his first win in a major contest.
