Whenever I see 6’2″-tall model Rocky Salumbides
i feel like humming The Crimea’s “Lottery Winners on Acid.” That is, I go weirdly insane like a lottery winner on acid. Although I am quite partial to the cutesy Chinaman pale boys [e.g. Carlos Concepcion], the Philippines’ male supermodel is one of my dark-skinned favorites. Of course, everybody knows his humble beginnings [street food vendor, Trinity College varsity basketball player, struggling model] to supermodel status. This 25-year old model is also known for his professionalism, competency and modesty, that is why he is one of the most in-demand male mannequins in the fashion runways of Manila, Singapore and Hong Kong.
Twenty-three-year old Arthur Manlutac
works as a technical support agent in a big BPO corporation somewhere between Ayala and Gil Puyat Avenues in Makati City. He is originally from Tarlac City, but he studied at the Mapua Institute of Technology-Makati campus. A part-time model, this hunky squirt has been turning heads in his building [and area].
In the latest Icon magazine issue, twenty-two year old Mark Onir Rino
appears in a fashion spread in a futuristic-metallic theme [I’m just wondering why some photogs, usually the thinking-just-inside-the-box ones, associate “futuristic” themes with metal or shiny objects
]. Mark Onir, who is one scorching hot model, stands 5’10” and is from Calamba, Laguna province. He was a finalist in the Guess? Faces to Watch Philippines and has recently appeared in the Philippine Fashion Week. This model, who is one of the most dandy-favored male mannequins in the biz today, was once a varsity basketball player.
Twenty-four year old Pong Cruz is a model and singer, who was once among the top three finalists in a Maharlikang Pilipino pageant held years back. The 5’11”-tall looker has also modeled for top fashion designers. With his height and very-mucho-Filipino looks, Pong Cruz deserves a second-look in the models’ playing field. Of course, his hair can always be fixed by a good stylist.
This is the go-grab-a-copy now post. Icon Magazine Philippines has come out with its latest issue, with Sylvester “Ram” Sagad on the cover. Ram Sagad [UPH’s source of woes and troubles recently] is the current winner of the Century Tuna Superbods, an annual model search of Century Tuna. He was the surprise unknown who beat top favorites and pro models in the competition. Incidentally, the latest issue also features perennial bikini pageant contestant Alizon Andres,
who talks about some “controversy” in the Century Tuna event. Alizon Andres handily won the Texter’s Choice award in the pageant and there’s no controversy there. Ok, go buy the magazine boys!
Red Magat is an aircraft mechanic technician by day and a part-time bikini model by night. This 5’11”-tall chunk was last seen as a bikini contestant in the Seiko Films-produced flick, Bikini Open. It seems like art imitates life, as Red Magat had been in most bikini contests in the country. Yet, Red Magat is proud to reveal that his earnings in modeling have put his three younger siblings to school in their native Obando, Bulacan.
, isn’t that your favorite boy, John Carlo Cruz
[no.17]? He finally won a bikini contest last April in faraway Iba, Zambales. Maybe the metro competition was too strong he had to go to the 2007 Zambales Bikini Open. Well, he had some stiff
competition from veteran bikini contest contenders, Michael Hoo
[middle] and Cherroy Curamen. Fortunately, John Carlo Cruz took home the top prize. So, UPH, that explains why he was busy.
The fantasy would have to be like this: at 2 a.m. there’s a naked guy up the dark alley and his name is Domz Nadres
. This 21-year old part-time model has elicited lots of requests from you guys, I can’t help but put him here again. Although he may not be conventionally-handsome, Domz Nadres sure is one hunk with gobs of appeal, thanks to those vicious lips and sculpted bod.
The Ateneo’s former Blue Eagle forward Doug Kramer
seems like he is on a new career path. One of the preeminent players of the Ateneo’s basketball team, the 23-year old, 6’4″ power forward has now graduated with an AB Interdisciplinary Studies course, and it seems like he is trekking towards showbiz. It is no surprise since he has long been dating a pretty gal from the bright lights and that he has been modeling underwear for Bench for quite some time.
For a time, I always thought Iago Raterta
was a Brazilian [of the Tupi-Guarani stock] fly-in model. When he first came to the scene a few years back he was all over the Bench underwear ads in funny green cotton briefs. Totally unknown [except for die-hard collegiate basketball fans as he played for the UST Team], Iago had it easy entering the modeling biz, with his virile and potent looks. He really grows on you, I mean, he may not be drop-dead gorgeous but he is drop-dead gorgeous
after 4 minutes staring at him. At the moment, he is one of the most requested models for ramps shows, as he is well-known for being quiet, efficient and a professional.
