The local edition of Big Brother recently announced on the show that on 19 April, “Basketball Hunk” Bruce Quebral will board a plane to Slovenia and room in with that country’s BB edition. Bruce, who knows nothing about the swap until he boards the plane, will be in Slovenia for a week. Methinks that would be awfully traumatic; imagine, of all horrors, being told that you will be thrown into where-the-heck-is-Slovenia when you are already on the airplane! According to the Slovenian Big Brother management, they selected Bruce for the inter-country swap [one Slovenian girl, Tina, will join Pinoy Big Brother] because of his good looks as there are not enough handsome guys in the BB house. Here’s hoping a more liberal
Slovenian house will show Bruce in more ways we can imagine.
The Chlorella Growth Factor [CGF] must have worked wonders on this kid. Now that he is of legal age, we can now feature Michael Seifert, erstwhile model of the Cherifer [with taurine and CGF] growth and weight promoting vitamins for children. At the recent gala night of the 2007 Philippine Fashion Week, many were wondering who the hunky model was. Apparently, he has bulked up and, er, grown. He is half-German, half-Filipino [mom is from Bacolod City], and a former child commercial model [together with his sister, Sandra – cohost of that midnight show on GMA 7, Walang Tulugan]. Michael went to Brent International School-Manila and speaks four languages fluently – German, English, Filipino and French.
When I posted photos of Reynald Llanes in a free gallery site a couple of months back, many were asking about the 411 on this guy. Reynald Llanes is 22, 5’9″ tall and a student of Nursing at the South East Asian Colleges. He does modeling part-time and has appeared in Fila fashion show, Street Bodies 2006, Bikini Watch, Campus Face 2006, and Makati Shangrila formal designers fashion show. According to the interview he did for Male Revue Magazine, he swears he will never “bare in a movie.” Guys, he said movies. Movies not magazines. And heck, there’s a lot of difference in there.
He has the most number of aka
labels so far. Alvin Asuncion aka Ken Escudero aka Alvien Cano aka Ken Silverio, is 20 years old and the 2006 winner of the annual Ginoong Pilipinas male pageant. He was also the Mr. Photogenic in the recently concluded Mister International Pageant held in Singapore. Although he looks barely legal, Ken Escudero, as he is known now, has appeared as the lead in the gay indie flick Sikil,
where he gets to show some skin.
Incidentally, Cavite-born Ken graduated with a degree of BS Marine Transportation from the Asian Institute of Maritime Studies in Pasay City.
G-ford Lara, half of the bod-to-die-for brother-models team [the other being CJ Lara], is 28 years old and single. He has been modeling for quite some time now for A-list designers and brands in the country, most notable of which were assignments for Bench Underwear and Cosmopolitan Magazine’s Eligible Bachelors Show. CJ has also appeared in a movie, the unlamented Xerex Files Trilogy, where he played a deadbeat fiancée in the “O” episode of said film.
Methinks that gym is deteriorating and how. There was a time when it was an imposing structure right inside the tony side of Glorietta mall. But now, the locker room stinks like rotten takeaway long forgotten at the back of the car, the machines and equipment crank big-time from wear and tear, and the service sucks like Gold’s is merely a backyard gym. And I’m not mentioning that the place has now been invaded by freeloader models and wannabees, employees or agents with discounted corporate tie-ins, blackmarket gift certificate buyers, and unlicensed gym instructors who happen to merely have nice bods. Once Fitness First opens shop at the new Greenbelt Mall 5, that would have to be a threat. Major. So please, Gold’s Gym Makati, how about some notable change in your corporate management. Improve the service, equipment, quality control and security in the place. If not for regular members Vince Canizares, Andrew Wolff [pictures above], Carlos Concepcion, and okay, that Agassi guy, I would have long deported myself to that gym on top of that sperm bank in Malate district. What’s the name of that gym again?
Not that I am complaining: the good designer at the 2007 Philippine Fashion Week put Iago Raterta
clothes, and it brings good delight to us all. But the question would have to be: Will you wear those to the beach? Or, when you go pick dainty pink flowers with a woven basket over at Barangay Balabag or Yapak, way up the hills where you get a remarkable view of the Island of Boracay, will you doll up with what Iago’s bearing, I mean, wearing? Of course, you will.
The Japanese population in Brazil [nipo-brasileiro] constitutes the largest Asian group in that country. Most notably, there is a large concentration of Japanese immigrants in São Paulo’s Liberdade District. It must be recalled that the first Japanese immigrants, along with the Chinese, arrived in Brazil in 1908 in search of a better life. They worked as farmers in Brazil’s vast coffee farms. Naturally, some Japanese immigrants married native Brazilians and other Brazilians of European, African and Amerindian descent. That explains the highly diversified and unique look of some, if not most, Brazilians. Today, however, due to the economic and political problems in Brazil, there is an ongoing immigration of Japanese Brazilians to Japan – they were termed Dekasegi. Japan has warmly welcomed the Dekasegis as working visas were freely offered to them.
One Japanese Brazilian who is looking for better opportunities abroad is a model who goes by the name of Fabio Ide
. He is in town, and he has appeared in a TV commercial [Enervon vitamins] and fashion shows for top designers in the metro. I always thought he is male-model-tall [that is 6′ and above] but he lists his height at 182 cms, which converts to a little less than 5’10”. Pretty soon, the cute nipo-brasileiro
will move out of the country and land in other Asian countries [usually, pro Brazilian models stay 3 months in each country to pump up their resumes before moving to Europe and the US for bigger opportunities]. Incidentally, another drool-worthy Japanese Brazilian is model Leandro Okabe
He holds a hyphenated title as long as his name. Model-entrepreneur-singer-dancer-designer Carlos Bernardo Santos Concepcion has been getting a lot of buzz lately. Easily the most controversial in his group, Take 5 – that boyband that performs every 1 pm on the Sunday show SOP, Carlos has remained unscathed. In fact he has admitted to the photos that circulated in the net recently [see post ]. Still, his person remains a mystery as to his lineage [apparently an heir of the Concepcions of RFM, but isn’t Joey Concepcion the heir of the empire?], his school [DLSU or Benilde?], his real occupation [he listed “designer” in the last Metro Magazine body calendar]. All I know is that his mother is a prominent Santos of Cebu, that he has a big vacation house with a big pool somewhere south of Manila, and that he walks as if he’s floating. I’m not making the last one up, but he does look nice doing that; imagine his heels not touching the ground, that is how he does it. Just watch SOP every Sunday and see for yourselves. It is awfully cute. And then again, let’s give the good kid a break. He is in the biz to earn a living and to enjoy his life.
