Ian Porlayan fails to compete at the Mister International pageant

Remember the farmer from Nueva Ecija who surprised everyone at the first Mister Philippines pageant by winning the top plum – earning the right to represent the country in the Mister International contest? Ian Leonel Porlayagan, however, failed to attend and compete at the Mister International contest in Malaysia [a Brazilian won the pageant, held on New Year’s Eve]. Apparently, the organizers did not have enough money to finance the trip of Ian Porlayagan to nearby pageant site, Kuching. It must be remembered that the organizers of Mister Philippines also failed to send Michael Raymond Lim [as winner of ExpoWorld-Phils] to the Mister ExpoWorld contest in Guatemala City last year. Instead, Ginoong Pilipinas runner-up Joseph Pallera competed in the Mister ExpoWorld pageant in the Guatemalan capital. Incidentally, the Mister ExpoWorld pageant will be held in the Philippines this year.

  2. i think the government has nothing to do with these contests. these are strictly commercial ventures initiated by private individuals/ groups with profit as primary motive, and ian’s failure to compete is something that may be attributed to poor management. (i’m not referring to mister philippines, but speaking of male beauty/ bikini competitions, i’ve read of recurring stories about winners not getting their cash prizes and other perks as promised. so there). sigh.

  3. ….isali daw ba ang gobyerno sa mga kabadingang pageant… kung yung may sakit nga di matulungan eh yanpa kaya….. good for him di rin naman sya mananalo dun eh…. bobo na la pa breeding hehehehe

  4. “good for him di rin naman sya mananalo dun eh…. bobo na la pa breeding hehehehe.” Haay, Demure. You always make sense.

  6. When a beauty contest for women is staged, organizers want to continue a Filipino tradition ek-ek, or espouse some advocacy (ibaba ang kilay ko) and more importantly, make money from it from sponsors. When a beauty contest for men is staged, the organizers want to look pogi sa mga contestants and try to realize a dream or fantasy: that they have vast powers before a parade of desirable hunks, and get the best of them for themselves. The hell with commitments regarding prizes and benefits to these contestants. Otherwise they are just being naive.

  7. now that everything has been said and done…WHAT IS THE MORAL OF THE STORY OR WHAT IS THE LESSON FROM IAN’S MISFORTUNE?…i beg not to comment nor say a word. it is best left for the filipino mind to figure… a GORDIAN KNOT probably? *****

  8. Hay nako, he is so bobo talaga..i meet him sa bar and walang laman ang coconut nian..uminom nalang ako at naghanap ng iba.
