He was a major leading man in his heydays. It was in the 80s, when an Architecture student at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila started his singing career in bars and clubs. Then he was tapped to play lead in Visayan movies until Ernie Garcia was eventually hailed as the King of Visayan Movies. He eventually joined the “bold” bandwagon wherein he made the classic sexy flicks Uhaw na Bulaklak, Snake Sisters and Virgin People. Although he got some citations from the award-giving bodies, Ernie Garcia was always tagged as the “Bold King.” With the advent of the pene movies [so-called because of the actual penetration involved in the sex scenes], he stopped and disappeared from the limelight. He mounted concerts in small venues abroad. When he came back, he went mainstream in the movies. Ernie Garcia is now a painter.
