Last year, Manhunt Philippines chose Batangas representative June Macasaet [left] as its winner, and the rest was, well, he went on to win the international competition. This year, the contest is taking a step back as it picked Sta. Rosa, Nueva Ecija native Jamiel Ventosa as the country’s delegate to the main event in Shanghai next year. Jamiel is 18 years old and 6’2″ tall. Your thoughts?

The 1st runner-up is way better than the winner in terms of looks – although he still pales in comparison to June Macasaet who set the bar really high. Makes anybody wonder how the judges never even thought that their choice this year is a clear retrogression in the quest for the Manhunt International title. Maybe next time they can just scrap the local competition if the crop of contestants end up below par like this year’s batch. Much more sensible and practical to just appoint a really worthy Pinoy representative like what Cory Quirino did with Andrew Wolff who eventually snagged the 1st runner-up honors in the Mister World 2012 tilt.

Jamiel winning the local contest is clearly a “OMG what were the judges thinking” moment. No amount of training and transformation can boost the winning potential in the international tilt of somebody who just does not have that IT factor from the very start. The main reason why the Philippines won last year is because a fiercely charismatic class A model was finally sent as our representative to Manhunt International which is a men’s modelling competition of grandslam status. Does Jamiel strike you as being of model material? I thought so too. He will never stand out the least bit in the usual field of drop dead gorgeous candidates. Send the likes of Vince Ferraren or Sam Ajdani if we ever want to win again.
