Daybreak on Valentine’s Day

Guys, mark your calendars! Here’s an alternative Valentine’s Day date movie. On 13-14 February, Daybreak will be shown at the Cine Adarna of the UP Film Institute. It stars Coco Martin and Paolo Rivero, from the script of Charliebebs Gohetia and the direction of Adolfo Alix Jr. I’m pretty sure this will be a good one, for lovers out there who are in for a good cry.

Synopsis: DAYBREAK happens entirely in one place: a rest house in Taal, Batangas and only with two characters. In a single narrative time, intending by way of voyeurism, we discover what happens to two men spending one night contemplating whether to break up or continue their relationship. William and JP allow us to know their biggest lies and the biggest truths… two people loving each other, clinging to each other, betraying each other — trying the fragility of their feelings in only one night. Memories and dreams, truths and lies, fears and desires, betrayal and honesty, love and hate are all closely entwined in this night. Behind the veil of words, they are drawn to each other but will the light of the sunrise bring this intimacy to an end?

Daybreak will also be shown at Robinsons Galleria IndieSine from 20-26 February, 27 February – 4 March at Robinsons Manila [Ermita], and 5-11 March at Robinsons Bacolod.

  1. im intersted to have a special showing on this film here in cagayan de oro please help me connect to the producers or to its marketing people thank you so much

  2. From your description of the movie, sounds like a theater piece, the only advantage here being that the camera can bring the two characters’ bodies closer to the audience.

But with Coco and Paolo, who cares if it’s the most boring and mediocre story. The two guys are good enough reasons to get interested.

  3. NOW THIS IS WHAT i consider good or excellent movie sales pictures, compared to the “QUEERIOSITY” spread. it looks real, classy, not a chopped-liver variety. i have thrown enough DVDs in my toilet (the last one was PANTASYA, oh does it ever sucks, am surprised it even made it to Philly). my toilet is clogged (again) and my plumber is smiling from what he picks up from the trap…and my wallet of course..*****

  4. wow! na-excite naman ako. pareho kong crushes cna coco martin (since masahista days) and paolo rivero (since live show days). good thing na-revive acting career ni paolo. he’s actually a good actor kahit sa mga B-movies na nilabasan nya nun.

  5. “SHALL I GO OR SHALL I STAY”… synopsis sounds like my life story (or for that matter relevant to gays who venture the commercial market)…every time i pick up or take home a trick, by the light of daybreak – another heartbreak, another story to tell and another trip to the ATM to replenish my porta moneda. but ask me if it is worth it – YOU BET YOUR ASS, EVERY DIME OF IT…*****

STORYLINE SOUNDS INTERESTING (REMINISCENCE OF AN OFF-BROADWAY PLAY).

    ARE THERE CUM SHOTS? (LOL)

  6. is the movie’s theme a roXXXanne clone? you know, i never enjoy movies with a tragic ending. it was a 2-hour drive from my place to UP film institute, and the movie wasn’t really worth my time – the movie’s tragic end was uncalled-for and the story illogical it made all of us silent and glum as we trooped out of the theater. C’mon, this one should be a feel-good stuff for valentine’s day – funny, light, with some cock action thrown in for us voyeurs hehe. Drop those themes with heavy EBI!

just sharing, you might enjoy this gay vid from bimboboys I viewed last weekend. Here’s the link:

I for one am already excited to watch it. I think there are three screenings for each of the day (3, 5 and 7 PM) so there will be six screenings all in all.

It should be a very good movie. Otherwise, coming indie films may not be worth watching.

  8. I’ve seen this film in its special screening in UP.7:30 na nagstart ang film. Nagsalita si Paolo Rivero while Coco Martin is still in the Berlin Fest.

    Napakaganda ng cinematogaphy,
Coco Martin is very natural for his role.
However, inspite of ‘those’ compliments, may mga bagay lang na hindi ko masyadong nagustuhan ang ilang bagay na hinahanap ng isang manonood na handang magpunta ng UP just watch thhis film.

The film started by some-some establishing shots..
    Puro lock-frame ng mga daybreak.
    Iba’t ibang klase.

    Paulit-ulit.

Pero may isang scene dun na nakakakilig. Yung love making over the kumukulong pasta ng white spaghetti. Coco is very lovable talaga kahit halatang pina-tan sya. Medyo may mga love handles.
Siguro mga 15-20 mins na ang nakaraan. 3minute zooming sa kanila habang kumakain ng spaghetti.
Ayun. Dun pa lang lumabas yung Opening Credits. Akala ko Short fil lang.

Unforgettable scene din dun yung nagsayaw silang dalawa. Parang Kim and Cris ng Miss Siagon while singing The Last Night of the World. Sumaliw sila sa 1st time and Last time na makipagsayaw si Coco kay Paolo.

Di man pangit. Di man ganun kaganda. Kaya ayun.

Di ako nasatisfied sa sinsabi nilang UNCUT.
Maraming establishing shots na dapat i-cut.

Maganda talaga ang cinematography, yung lighting. Yung sweet dance nila. Yung KISSING SCENE nila. Napakagaling ni Coco. PArang miss na miss na si Paolo.

Paolo’s acting is horrible. Di sya nag-fit sa role. Di na dapat sya ginawang coniotic. Or di na lng sana sya.

The director should lessen tight shots and Zooming time after time. Medyo nakaka-uta lang. Ayun.

    Tapos walang masyadong Chikahan.

  9. I’ve watched Daybreak last February 13 at 7PM at UP Fim Center.

Ayun. Napaka-erotic.
Iba ibang anggulo. PAulit-ulit.
Ahnggang sa tumawag yung wife ni Paolo. Nag-walk-out si Coco. Mag 15-20 mins na ang nakakaraan. Saka palang nag-opening credits. Akala ko tapos na. Short film.

Ayun. Establishing shots. Establishing shots. Establishing Shots.. Zooming ng mga 3mins habang kumakain sila. Yun!

    Tapos. Conflict na…

Ang pinakamaganda yung mala-cris and kim sa MIss Saigon nilang Sweet dance nila naparang Last night of the World.

Umikot ang craine cam. Ang sweet. Ang tagal umikot. Nagtight shot. Nahilo ko after. Tas.. HUHUHU. Umikot ulit.

Ang solution nila before magpart ways. BAkit? Puwde ba yun?
I love coco more habang naghahalikan sila pero tumutulo yung luha nya. Ang galing.

    Paolo’s acting is horrible.
