Paco Arespacochaga is up again!

I had the most peculiar crushes when I was younger. One of them was Paco Arespacochaga, the lead drummer in the then-popular band Introvoys. Paco left the Philippines in 2001, several months after he and singer Geneva Cruz separated. Their marriage was annulled long after that. On the strength of an extraordinary-ability visa, Paco is now a green card-holder and legally a US citizen, along with his wife Tiny. Paco quietly slipped into town a few weeks ago to celebrate the 11th birthday of his son with Geneva Cruz, Heaven. Apparently, Introvoys [see] has also regrouped as most of the band members are all based now in the US. Pic below is Paco as he looks today.

Brent and Kiko, Who?

I did not see the movie, I must admit, but the guys’ photos are somehow worth posting. Brent Lee is the guy with the bad hair while Kiko Montenegro is the somehow sallow one on the right. They are in the indie movie called Pantasya which was produced by Viva Entertainment, which movie was screened only at the UP Film Center, if I’m not mistaken.

And more Brent and Kiko:

Whatever happened to the Powerboys? [or some updates on the guys]

The radio’s fault actually. There was a Backstreet Boys’ song that was played and all so sudden I remembered the Rexona deodorant commercial. Yes, that commercial where five cute guys in white towels were singing in the showers, lipsynching to BB’s I Want It That Way. Immediately after that, they were cast as a singing group, getting slots in noontime shows [ABS-CBN’s Magandang Tanghali Bayan and teen shows [ABS-CBN’s Berks]. After their meteroic rise, came the sudden fall. Some attribute it to the popularity of Meteor Garden , that Asian series of the hot F4 guys [think Vanness Wu, and I’m not sure how you spell it]. Whatever happened to the guys? Here’s some update I gathered:

Jordan Herrera

Real name Jordan Hermogenes, he was the most popular in the group. He was a 2nd year Hotel & Restaurant Management student at the St. Jude College in Manila when he became a product of bikini contests, the most legit of which was the 2002 Mossimo Bikini Summit [1st Ru to a huge Carlo Maceda in tight Mossimo bikini]. As the most controversial in the batch [ he was linked to a rich g-a-y benefactor], Jordan went on to star in Viva Films’ bold flicks, latest of which was Lupe where he went nude outdoors. Last I heard he is now in the cast of Pedro Penduko, ABS-CBN’s fantasy series about the Filipino myth, as one of the bit players. Yet, one will not recognize him there as he was cast a merman, the one with the prosthetics on his face. He has also taken in some weight, as can be seen in the pic below, which was shot on location for the series.

Greg Martin

He was the hunkiest in the batch, I guess. Greg Ronquillo Filipovich, half-Serbian and half-Filipino, was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY when he came here to try his luck in modeling. Before he got cast as one of the leads in the Rexona TVC, Greg was a practicing Emergency Medical Technician in NY, a martial arts expert and a breakdancer. In Manila, Greg enroled himself at the now-defunct Thames International School in a Business Administration course. After the demise of P4, he went to Thailand and Singapore to try his luck at modeling. Apparently he is back in NY. If you want to see how he looks like now, watch the video of Bebot by the Black Eyed Peas, where he was selected as a “background talent.” [As an aside, the mother of Apl.De.Ap there was played by former Eat Bulaga comic Louella Albornoz.]

Jay Salas

The cutest, for me, Jay Tugas was an established DJ in Wherelse Disco before he got cast as Rexona boy. With Spanish-Filipino blood, this cute guy was a graduate of St. Benedict’s College with a degree in BSMB Entrepreneurship. He is now based in Brooklyn, NY employed with a company that sells baby couture. Pictures below are fairly recent and he has not changed a bit.

Frank Garcia

The vain one. Frank Taunenbaum, half-Dutch and half-Filipino first appeared in TVCs as the charming guy in the Sarsi cola commercial. After P4, he went to Thailand to do some modeling. When he came back, he did the cough-and-colds series of commercials, which re-established him in the advertising market of talents. He has also done TV appearances. Photo below was taken at a mall show this year with singer Lance Raymundo and fan.

Geoff Rodriguez

His real name is Geoff Briz, half-British and half-Filipino. Born and raised in Sydney, Australia, Geoff came into the scene when he was used as the body model for the first Mossimo Bikini Summit. The P4 exposure made this curly-haired hunk quite famous. Often seen in the company of Marc Nelson, he is now being linked to Tisha Silang, a Bb. Pilipinas alum who was dethroned when she won the right to represent the Philippines in the Ms. Universe pageant a few years back. They are always in Boracay Island as Tisha does business there. Last time I saw him a few weeks ago, he was relatively gaut and gangly, so unlike his form a few years back. Photos below were taken last year for a commercial with Marc Nelson and Ms. Earth 2004 [the one from Brazil].

Dark and Mysterious: Ronnie Magallanes

Ronnie Magallanes is only 20 years old and he was a Computer Science student at the Columban College in Olongapo City when he was “discovered” to join bikini contests. He first joined Beach Bodies 2004 in Olongapo City, and although he did not win, he got offers for minor modeling stints in Manila. He finished 2nd RU at the Campus Face 2005 [won by multi-racial Spark Ding]. He wants to be an actor, so he took up courses in acting with the GMA Artist Center.

Bold and Firm: Tyron Gomez

Let’s just say that in the alphabet soup of male bikini pageants, this 6′ tall native of Angeles City has indulged himself in some buffet. Twenty-two year old Tyron Gomez, fresh from his loss at the 2006 Ginoong Pilipinas male pageant [which was won by Alvin Cano Asuncion aka Ken Escudero], is now trying his luck in the indie movies. Prior to that, the most “notable” contests he has joined were Mr. and Ms. Sexy Body, Bikini Summit Philippines and Body Heat [And I’m really stressing here guys that these contests are mere stepping stones to stardom. Really.]

The Last Viva Hotmen Member

I always thought it was John Harren Cuevas, that cute chinito, who came in last as one of the Viva Hotmen, that strip-lipsync-and-grind group of relatively goodlooking boys who made the chichis swoon some time ago. Now that the Viva Hotmen are disbanded, eased out of oblivion by the Men of Provoq, it can be told that the last guy who went in was six-footer Cedric Javier. He joined the group months before the fall, when the offers started to dwindle. Cedric, who never even got his brownie points as a member, was part of the indie film Coed produced by Viva. At least he got to sing and dance with his group, even for just a while.

The 100 : Valentino Boys

[Arnold] [Rico]

[Alfred] [Timmy]
[Robin] [MC]

[Kerk] [Kiro]

I’m on my 100th post guys and I’m pitching eight naked persons, whose pictures were culled from Valentino magazine [go buy the glossy, you’ll see more]. They are the Boys of Valentino, and frankly I do not know much about these guys. Let’s see, there’s Rico Medina, a 19-year old guy who once posed with bubbles covering him there down south; Kerk Vincent, all of 18 years who claims he is part of his school’s basketball varsity team; Alfred de la Cruz, 23 years old and a favorite photo subject of an aging and déclassé fashion designer with a funny name, who posts Alfred’s pics in a Multiply account [you could just imagine the pics there and I’m not telling yet the name of the account]; MC Auriel Gagan, 20 years old and a Computer Engineering student, who once posed with glass bubbles over his privates; and Robin Martinez, a 19-year old waiter in Makati City. As to the others, I will have to find out yet. In the meantime, take your pick[s] and I will post their individual photos soon.

Getting On: Mark Dionisio

The hairy guy’s back. After starring in a string of B-rate independent movies with sex-themed titles, Mark Dionisio – now balding, pimply and all, is again in an indie gay flick, Pantasya. He used to be a fashion model who did minor ramp shows. His best ever finish in a bikini contest [I’m telling you guys, it’s a stepping stone. I kid you not.] was first runner-up at the Mr. and Ms. Body Beautiful pageant, wherever and whatever that is. When the sex flick era was in, he was all around, without any qualms stripping down to his tighty whities or none at all. When the movie offers started to dwindle, he went on doing stage plays in minor productions. Now that he is on the way to, well, getting up in years, he is back – back to what he loves doing best. WITWI Martin Gonzalo

Where in the world is Martin Gonzalo? He first came into the scene by representing Pangasinan province in the Ginoong Pilipinas male pageant. The then scraggy Eric Junio aka Martin Gonzalo did not win the competition, but he was signed up for the movies. After appearing as pin-up boy in the gay mags at that time [once as totally naked video guy on the bookazine Rice], he was offered one of the leads in the controversial movie, Live Show. He went on to appear in a couple more sex-oriented flicks but his career went for the downside when the era of the bold bandwagon ended. He briefly appeared in the TV series, Sa Dulo ng Walang Hanggan on Channel 2. When the series ended, his career also went to rest.
