Degrees of Ugly

There are many degrees of ugly. For instance, some may find international model Paolo Roldan attractive. Others abhor his look. No doubt he has a crazy bod, but when Bench Body hauled his ass  off to Manila and put up giant billboards of his images, no one really went gaga over the guy.  Is Manila not cosmopolitan enough for this erstwhile Givenchy model? Or is Paolo really butt ugly?

    2. Ang alam ko mukha kang aswang and as you said it right: mukha kang lorenngay.

  2. he’s not ugly..he’s ugly pretty not pretty ugly..no doubt he’s got a very interesting look thats why he became a model…there’s nothing wrong with his looks..there’s something wrong with pinoy’s taste on beauty.we always prefer the meztiso looks,we cant do anything about,it has been that way since the spaniard colonization.

BASTA INTERNATIONAL MODEL SYA. He may not be Hollywood or Pinoy Showbiz gwapo pero he is international brand gwapo. Not too shabby. I’ll choose that over “good looks” with ok to almost non-existent showbiz career dito sa Pinas. At least good looking sya para sa mga tao who dictate “what looks good on us.”

hindi natin hate ang pinoy looks. ang dami kayang bench models na pinoy looks. it’s just this roldan guy is TYPICAL for many of us Filipinos. it is NOT TYPICAL for foreign countries.

  7. He doesn’t qualify with the standard definition of beauty but he has a great look that is appreciated by the international market. It will be more of an acquired taste. He has the looks that will grow on you.

  8. Oh you poor little Primitive Things! (*take note, I purposely used the word “Things”)

In our world of High Fashion (which I doubt you understand, which is why I’m here to explain), Paolo Roldan’s entry to the business is a Fashion Moment. In fact, he is one of the very few models (along with Francisco Lachowski, Marlon Teixeira, River Viiperi, Sebastian Sauvé , Daisuke Ueda, Leebo Freeman, Paolo Anchisi) who made the cut in Luca Finotti’s “Kings of Milano”.

But of course, I’m already sure u don’t know two thirds of the names I just mentioned because you are too busy working your ass to earn another peso just for internet connection.

My piece of advice: Save your money and buy yourself some education!

    1. Wow, coming from your very superficial haute couture world, you truly know what education is all about.I’m sure you have stacks and stacks of fashion magazine that you read religiously for you to know each and every name you mentioned. But of course we proletariats wouldn’t know because we are so busy earning a meager peso just to read rddantes’ post and put food on the table. Poor us lucky you. You must be very proud of what you wrote. C’est la vie

When Paolo saw YOU in person, he took the very first flight out of Manila and never came back.

  11. To Annie White’s comments, I agree 10000000000%.

Most of the people posting here simply don’t have cosmopolitan tastes. Roldan is not conventionally attractive in the conio boy-next-door looks we favor in the Philippines. But to call him ugly is the height of ignorance.

  12. His’ modelling for Bench is an Epic Fail! Yes in the runways abroad he IS a hit, because he has a distinct Look there, eh dito sa atin ang mga kargadors at karpinteros have that very look! Ka-bobohan marketting wise to bring him here and aspire for Stardom kasi for the masa, which is basically the target market of Bench will never find him desirable! It is exactly what Anna Bayle had before, she was a Big Star in NY, Paris, Milan, and she stayed there! She and her agents were wise enough to know that here, she is just another Pinay!

    – Thank you, Dear! Actually, my apologies for the very strong words. And sorry for the bit about “internet connections” etc. I was just infuriated by how some people actually went as low as using the word “UGLY”, when beauty is an open adjective and it’s definition cannot be encapsulated within the very narrow stereotype of Tall, Fair and Brazilian-Looking.

Now that I’m more sober and no longer angry. Thanks for agreeing with me, sweetie! You are probably a beauty yourself!

Then you better hurry and book a firetruck or you will be the first to burn. I sense ugliness just from your vibe alone.

On second thoughts, please don’t call the firemen, so you DON’T SURVIVE.

  17. Pano naman naging ugly yan.. mang husga daw ba! Yung mag sinasabi nyo na gwapo like gerald anderson etc etc… Like for example liam hemsworth.. Itabi mo si gerald anderson dyan at mag mukhang alalay. But itabi mo si Paolo… May appeal.. Exotic ang dating! Not that im telling he is gudlooking pero. Gets??

  18. The fact is Pinoys still have colonial mentality, we’re slaves trained well by our colonial masters basically, so anything with Western features are considered more beautiful, which is why we can’t appreciate Paolo Roldan’s beauty. It’s so pervasive and I think it’s very sad that we have to import foreigner models since a lot of us can’t appreciate local beauty. The irony is that, Paolo, despite being Fil-Canadian (I think), defines truly what native Pinoy beauty is. Para sa ‘kin he’s extremely hot, right up there with Jericho Rosales, Piolo, and, yes, even the likes of Jon Hall, who defines the opposite in the spectrum of beauty, yung banyaga look. I personally find really kayumanggi Pinoys really goodlooking and I’m frankly baffled why Pinoy thinking is still so behind the times. Twenty first century na, c’mon!

OMG Buddyv !! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Thank you! I’m so glad to hear from someone like you here πŸ™‚
OMG, hahah!! Really? U don’t like Daisuke? I have to admit, I’m totally crushing on him!!! But well, we do have our own tastes. Unfortunately, he has a Girlfriend and he’s a totally loyal boyfriend. Back in NYC, I actually tried to flirt with him, but he told me this exact line: “I actually really love my girlfriend so I won’t even attempt to open my doors to temptation, so I hope you understand. You’re very beautiful and I’d surely be tempted, so it’s best I stay away as early as now.” OMG, I would be offended on a normal circumstance, but his loyalty and gentlemanly approach made my panties drop, and I forgave him in an instant. Hope to hear more from you and save me some of your beluga! Kisses, sweetie! – Annie
