Vintage Sunday

You’ve seen his wet pics before. And some of his penis shots. In the advent of the Internet, pictures of a naked Harold Pineda on top of a small building in Cubao, Quezon City were splashed all over some sites then. It was such gay gladdening. Remember, it was an era not used to naked Filipino men – the local gay rags then were still in the drawing boards and the movies did not feature much guys in the buff. Harold, in some ways, helped pave the way for Filipino men to just tear everything off, down to their skivvies or otherwise. For art’s sake. That’s what I’m thinking so.

Harold Pineda is back in town

The ultimate sexy poster boy of the 90s era of skin flicks is back in town. Harold Pineda just came back from a four-year stint in the Land of the Rising Sun as a hosto or male entertainer. Harold Pineda, who last appeared in the 2002 movie Alyas Bomba Queen, started his career from winning the Ginoong Pilipinas title in 1998. From then on he was cast, sans clothes, in numerous sexy movies in his time.

It is awfully hot in Manila!

[Harold Pineda]

Summer is overextending its stay in the country, and it is scorchingly hot! Even at nights, the expected cool breeze in the city is nowhere near my windows. According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the highest temperature in the country so far this year is now 39.3∞C. The latest hottest temperature for Metro Manila was noted at 37∞C last April 24 at the PAGASA Science Garden in Diliman, Quezon City. Before, Metro Manila’s latest maximum temperature record was 36.8∞C last April 17. The erstwhile maximum temperature record this year was 39∞C in General Santos City last April 14. The highest temperature record in Philippine history is 42.2∞C in Tuguegarao City on May 11, 1969.

PAGASA said that the warm weather in the country is expected to reach its peak in the first half of May, the warmest month of the year before the onset of the rainy season in June. Among the highest recorded temperature in the country was 38.6∞C at the Manila Port Area on May 17, 1915; 38.1∞C at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on May 18, 1969; and 38.5∞C in Sangley Point, Cavite, on May 16, 1987.

That’s pretty good news as in the next few days, the hot temperatures will begin to go down in time for the rainy season. In the meantime, cold showers will do, just like what Harold Pineda [photos above] is doing. It is risky to that on the rooftop though.

Before heaps and loads of their glossy photos…..

…..hit the gay rags they had amateur pictures then, taken somewhere in a backyard studio or some talent manager’s office. Rodel Velayo, Harold Pineda and Anton Bernardo, who were queer fantasies in the 90s, as they appeared in sex-themed movies, magazines and even tv shows, were considered daring and uh, cocky during their prime. This was the 90s and the digital camera was just starting to be developed commercially [FYI: The first digicam prototype appeared in 1986 and the first commercial model in 1991, the Kodak DCS (Digital Camera System) 100, a 1.3-megapixel CCD fit into a Nikon film camera body. The DSC 100 is often cited as the first true commercially available digital camera, but it was sold only to well-heeled photojournalists for $10,000 to $20,000.] . Despite the crude photos, the three guys, lust idols in their time, still turned out in remarkable images, if you ask me.

Posing 101: Lying Face Down

Back in the olden days, when see-through meant curtains and not men’s underwear, one of the more popular variant poses for the strip-for-pay actors was the one lying face down. Plausibly, photogs for the gay mags who got tired asking their subjects to merely pose with their skivvies on, had to ask the guys to just lie down, with butt-crack showing. Remember, this was in the 90s and it was big deal then for these actors to well, position themselves that way. It was sufficient enough to tickle the prurient fancy of every adolescent gay boy then.

Seems like I never get tired….

…looking at Harold Pineda photos. In the advent of the Internet, pictures of a naked Harold on top of a small building in Cubao, Quezon City were splashed all over the most popular Filipino gay Yahoo group then. It was such gay gladdening. Remember, it was an era not used to naked Filipino men – the local gay rags then were still in the drawing boards and the movies did not feature much guys in the buff. Harold Pineda, the Ginoong Pilipinas ’98 winner, in some ways, helped pave the way for Filipino men to just tear everything off, down to their skivvies or otherwise. For art’s sake. That’s what I’m thinking so.
