Tease: Allan Farcon

Allan Mercado Farcon is a 23-year old part-time model from Binan, Laguna. This 5’8″-tall looker finished his BS Electronics and Communications Engineering course from the AMA Computer University. He has modeled for the print ads and ramp shows of name brands Rough Rider Jeans, Carter briefs, Walker underwear, Dickies, Lanjary and Safari Collection. He has done bit roles on teevee shows too.

Dicks-A-Day: Jack and Jay

Jack Gabaisen [left] and Jay Trias were part of the calendar boy-group ingeniously called Naked Hunks of the Philippines. They were one of the better-looking “models” in the group, which did the rounds then of sing-along and gay bars promoting their 2005 calendar. Although the group had a mild feverish success, they eventually disbanded and no 2006 calendar was put up. While Jack Gabaisen went on to appear as a bit player in the critically-panned Twilight Dancers flick, Jay Trias vanished into oblivion.

Naughty, Sexy, Dishy Dave

Dave Devon Rebolledo is a 5’10-tall model, slowly making his mark in the modeling scene. As one of Cosmopolitan [Philippines] magazine’s 69 most eligible bachelors, Dave has also appeared at the Cosmo Bachelors Bash of 2006. He is at present a finalist for the Grand Finals of the Style Eyecatchers Model Search to be held on August11 2007.

“Moreno”: Ray-An Dulay

The former teenage sensation of the gay hit flick “Bathhouse” [shown 2005] is starring again in Director Cris Pablo’s comeback indie and digital video movie, “Moreno” [Bronze]. Ray-An Dulay, who was dubbed as a “sensual, younger and virile version of Jacky Chan” by one NY film critic, according to the movie’s pr, is back in the gay-themed movie, which deals with infidelity and promiscuousness between and among partners. The movie was shot in the South, featuring “datus and locals of Mindanao.”

“Moreno” is currently being shown at the Robinsons Mall Galleria and Robinsons Place Manila until June 26 as part of the IndieSine Festival.

What is a “Class A” model?

During dinner, my friend UPH, who has finally put up his site [ http://www.ultimatepinoyhunks.net] after the Ram Sagad saga, was diss-cussing with me recently how some D-list models classify themselves, conceitedly, as “Class A.” The subject matter came about after UPH recalled how one wannabe model [D.] he purposely met suddenly self-proclaimed that he is a Class A model, together with A., G., and a host of others I could only tick from the back of my mind’s D-list. And then again, I do not even remember the bigger-league male mannequins calling themselves “Class A models.” They are simply called models. Top models.

Finally, it dawned into smart aleck UPH that in Greenhills Shopping Center, home of the counterfeit goods, the vendors classify their wares from Class A imitation to Class D crock. Say, for example, there is a Class A Rolex in Greenhills – which means that it is a precise replica, but still a replica; the Class D would be crass-fake big-time. And it all made sense.

And so, we finally understood what that wannabe model was saying all along. Since they cannot go a bit higher and join the ranks of the Iagos, Victors and Dereks and all the models shown above [representing a select few of the top male mannequins], the Daves, Alizons, Guinesses and a multitude of others go a step nearer and call themselves respectably as “Class A models.”

Our concerns, precisely.

Boxing Billy Bob

I remember an aunt, who always had a mean streak in her bones, describing the not-so-pretty boys as “mukhang boksingero” [“looks like a boxer”]. I presume she grew up watching Filipino boxers of yore, who had mangled noses and busted lips. Either that or she idolized Pacquiao so much. Photos above are that of Billy Bob, an amateur model who has joined some of the token bikini contests in town.

Twinkie: Archie Castro

Nineteen-year old Archimedes Edsyl Castro, Jr. or Archie Castro is a student of Marine Transportation at the Asian Institute of Maritime Studies. A native of Bacoor, Cavite, this 5’10”-tall part-time model was also a former high school varsity basketball player in Cavite. He has appeared in fashion shows for some minor designers and was one of the finalists in the 2006 Natatanging Ginoo at Binibini ng OFWs.

Dick-A-Day: Jes Rodriguez

Jes Rodriguez was formerly with RAMM, a gay strip club along Aurora Boulevard in San Juan,Metro Manila. He was one of the top draws in the place, until it closed down. Last I heard, he has been doing incredible home-service shiatsu massage – with all the appropriate rubs, squeeze and strokes.

Man-on-the-Street: Ricky Martinez

Ricky Martinez was part of the group Coverboys, together with a former naked-guy-post, John Paul Mercado. The group was a daring strip-and-dance collection of spunky young boys plucked from nowhere, which did the rounds of gay bars and sing-along clubs in the metro.

Rocky!

Whenever I see 6’2″-tall model Rocky Salumbides i feel like humming The Crimea’s “Lottery Winners on Acid.” That is, I go weirdly insane like a lottery winner on acid. Although I am quite partial to the cutesy Chinaman pale boys [e.g. Carlos Concepcion], the Philippines’ male supermodel is one of my dark-skinned favorites. Of course, everybody knows his humble beginnings [street food vendor, Trinity College varsity basketball player, struggling model] to supermodel status. This 25-year old model is also known for his professionalism, competency and modesty, that is why he is one of the most in-demand male mannequins in the fashion runways of Manila, Singapore and Hong Kong.
