Again

So, there really is a controversy brewing about Jake’s billboard in Magallanes. Here is an article from the Business Mirror dated 7 February 2010 [Sunday]: Aside from the potential danger they pose to pedestrians and vehicles during typhoons, it is more often than not the questionable contents of the colossal billboards dominating the busy and crowded city roads of Metro Manila that become people’s object of criticism. The most recent one is Bench-Body’s advertisement billboard of “new second skin” product depicting Jake Cuenca, Bench model and one of ABS-CBN’s celebrities, in a “provocative” pose wearing only a pair of scanty briefs. The complaint came in a letter to the editor from Atty. Romulo Macalintal, veteran-elections lawyer, stating that “the advertisement is an intentional and blatant disrespect for family values.” He said the campaign is a total disregard of his children’s right to be free from an excessive public display of vulgar, lewd and unwholesome product endorsements. Erected at the Magallanes interchange, the billboard serves as a “welcoming view” to motorists and commuters alike upon entering Makati City. The issue raises the guidelines being followed in approving an advertisement material.” Read the entire article here.

Oh Jakey!

This is the image of Jake Cuenca that went up teasing and taunting in the Magallanes flyover in Makati City. Actually, it’s a bit different from the theme of Bench Body this season – Lost in Summer, which had the models in a tropical swamp setting. Here, Jake’s indoors, endorsing paisley pattern briefs reminiscent of the tacky underwear of the 70s. Yet, whatever Jake is wearing, he still looks smokin’! Now imagine this photo a thousand times bigger on a busy, busy interchange.

Benjamin’s Thang

There’s this Bench Body billboard along the Kalayaan flyover in Makati City featuring a cute guy, quite new and unfamiliar to most. His name is Benjamin Tang, a German-Vietnamese model trying his luck here. This 22-year-old cutie is best remembered for playing the devil in the Coke Angel tvc shown recently. Prior to Bench, he did the commercials for Medicol, Globe Superduo and C2 Sulitro. He is hot, isn’t he?

Dear JC

What really happened to you? There was a time you were waiting in the wings in GMA-7 as the next big star, the new leading man of his time in the league of Dingdong Dantes. But the big fiasco between your manager and some network executive left you terribly affected. The projects you got were the catchpenny ones – an afternoon soap here and a variety show guesting there. Geez! Now, some are appending names to you such as Failed Star JC de Vera or Also-Ran Actor JC de Vera. Would you even allow that? What are you doing? If I were you, I’d ditch the bitch and find myself a professional agent. It would help if you put on those tiny white Bench Body briefs. Good luck, kid!

Stands Out

The buzz is that the latest billboard of Bench Body underwear featuring a very sexy Jake Cuenca in floral print briefs was removed most recently at the Magallanes Interchange in Makati City. No one knows the reason about the sudden pulling down of the advertisement except that it was too racy for a heavy-traffic area. The “Lost in Summer” campaign of Bench is surely generating some rumble with Jake in the news. Who knows the lurid image of Jake in tiny flower-patterned briefs will go up again pretty soon? In the meantime, Jake dons the neon underwear in the image above.

Delight

Will Rafael Rosell be headlining this summer’s campaign for the Bench Body underwear line? In the past few years, Rafael was one of the main guys wearing skimpy skivvies for the local brand. His images were in the hot summer billboards and posters around town. Now that Bench is coming out with the “Lost in Summer” campaign, will Rafael be the top guy or will it be someone else? Like, say Jake for example.

Leaving Too

Who’s leaving Bench Body after modeling skimpy cotton bikinis for so many years? Rumors are rife that one of the guys above is hanging his Bench briefs for good to transfer to a leading direct-selling and networking business of footwear, apparel, bags and other fashion accessories. In fact, he appeared in the latest fashion show of that company. Just recently, Sam Milby bolted the Bench headquarters for a better offer at rival Folded and Hung. So who’s it going to be next? Will it be [clockwise, from top]: Jon, Jay R, Jake or Jafael?

Bright as Yellow

Model and actor Jon Avila [formerly Mullally] is expanding his showbiz horizons. He is now a singer, dancer and tv host. His job in ABS-CBN’s Sunday noontime show ASAP requires him to sing and dance, sometimes sans shirts. He is also one of the hosts of TV5’s Shall We Dance, where he gets to show some twist and two-step skills. After the career-changing stint at the Big Brother House a couple of years ago, Jon went off to a lukewarm start in showbiz. Yet, he refuses to be content with just the usual bit roles on tv, as he’s all set to do almost everything to remain in the klieg lights. No wonder he is still very much around unlike his contemporaries.

Men in Shorts

It’s the return of the sexy running shorts or bun huggers or whatever you call them short shorts! After years of rule by the baggies, the design of the tight fitting shorts with an inseam of 5 inches or less is totally back.  Actor and model Jon Mullally [left] recently modeled one for Bench.  Brazilian model Hideo Muraoka wore the shorts for Folded and Hung. Both men look very delish in those shorts, natch!

Piolo’s billboards go down

Top guy Piolo Pascual was in the news this morning.  His billboards along busy EDSA have all been taken down, due to what the Department of Public Works and Highways [DPWH] termed as “indecent images.”  The news report stated that among the twenty or so billboards that were detached and destroyed  were two images of the shirtless hunky actor for San Mig Coffee. I think the giant board of local clothing brand Bench in Guadalupe, Makati City  featuring the actor in a sexy pose akin to the image above was also cleared away. Too bad.
