Mysterious Lito from the Middle East had to remind me that X-Ray Magazine is now out in the newsstands here in Manila. [Thanks Lito for all those emails! Keep ’em coming.] The publishers thought of making it into a 2008 calendar featuring The Studs of GMA 7 , composed of Starstruck’s Dion Ignacio, Starstruck Ultimate Survivor Mike Tan, former Wazzup Wazzup host JC Cuadrado, Starstruck Avenger Kevin Santos [in a daring Calvin Klein pose], Star in a Million Finalist Lance Onate, one-half of the twinkie-twins Felix Roco and Mr. Pogi Edgar Allan de Guzman. Masahista Coco Martin is also in the calendar. Sorry guys, I won’t be scanning the calendar here so buy a copy at Php 395.
Model: Alias Gabriel
Aside from the foreboding Christmas season, October brings in another celebration that rationalizes getting drunk everyday and acquiring a beer belly in 3 days – The Oktoberfest. Here in the Philippines, premier beer San Miguel has lined up once again a series of shows and concerts in practically all restaurants in the country to make whoopee at this time. But of course, everyone knows this event came from Munich, Germany. The origins of the Oktoberfest date back to the marriage of Prince Ludwig I to Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen on October 12, 1810. All of the residents of Munich were invited to celebrate the marriage in the surrounding fields. The celebrations lasted five days and ended with a horse race. The following year the event was repeated and the popularity of the event grew and it became ritualized into the calendar. Oktoberfest today has evolved into the German festival to celebrate the changing of the seasons, and it has become a prominent celebration wherever a German community exists.
Although he is not that visible these days, the mostest Bench underwear model Jon Hall still delivers that raw and manful bearing he has always been known for. Based in Cebu [Malapascua] to be with his Filipino mother and British father [he also has a sister into modeling], he shuttles back to Manila when there are projects. The ultimate male model has declared in a magazine interview that he has now grown mature as he is “pretty mellow now though.” He also has made an effort to stop drinking to control his temper. He admits that his worst vice though is smoking. When asked if he is hot, he makes a go for modesty by saying he thinks he is “not bad looking, but I won’t be arrogant about it.”
He always had that Joaquin-Casado mien – that bashful and cautious port saying “Hey, I’m reluctantly into showbiz but what the heck I’m mestizo and I need to earn a living.” Nevertheless, John Miller, the shy guy from the Men of Provoq, is still game. Tonight he will be at the Lips Bar, scene of the most out-there “fashion” and “bikini” shows in town. Makes me wonder, the show is entitled Private John M Show, is he going solo, Lex? This had the green light of Viva? Anyhow, catch John Miller tonight at 152 Aurora Boulevard, QC [this is near the J. Ruiz Station of the MRT]. Tickets are at P 500.
After his much-publicized past as a model-turned-hermit-in-the-mountains, Amarjit Rai aka Jet Rai aka Jet Alcantara is back in showbiz, although without the fanfare. The 6’3″-tall model-turned-actor just wrapped up the critically praised digital movie, Ataul [Coffin]: For Rent. The last movie he did prior to this was the queer flick Bathhouse in 2005, where he bared some skin. Jet Rai started out as a model, and always the first runner-up in male contests such as the SM Man of the Year in 1997 [he lost to a fresh-faced medical student named Charles Constantino] and the Mr. World-Philippines. He was said to have gone to the hills and practiced the life of a hermit before going back to do Bathhouse.
Martin Morales counts himself in as a freelance model. The 22-year-old lad from Bulacan has posed for a series of shoots in Valentino magazine. I’m not so sure – it must be just myself seeing things, but when I stare at that crotch over there, there are short and shriveled lines and form. I guess it’s just an illusory pattern of perception interpretation, as some might call it.
Thomas “Bo” Rivera is one busy model these days. The 20-year-old hottie was the featured hunk of the month of Cosmopolitan [Philippines] Magazine for September 2007. He was also a featured model in the Cosmo Air 69 show. Recently, Bo – who stands 6’2″ and was a finalist at the 2007 Mossimo Bikini Summit, was one of the select few who blazed through the stage in the underwear show at the Be Bench Finals.
Raymond Ogana is another constant fixture in male pageants, just like his brother. He wants to be a ramp and commercial model, according to his bio. In 2006, he joined the Ginoong Caloocan pageant, where he competed with Christian Navesis ,Tyron Gomez ,Lesther Navarro and Domz Nadres. In the same year, he joined the Ginoong Pilipinas competition, and unfortunately, he lost.
His starshine may have waned but 31-year-old actor Diether Ocampo is still one of Bench’s top celebrity endorsers. Recently, although his last soap Margarita got an unceremonious axing from ABS-CBN due to low ratings and unfavorable viewer response, his leading-man status was confirmed by his network when his photos were displayed with the likes of Piolo Pascual and Sam Milby in the annual exhibit of Star Magic, the talent management arm of ABS-CBN. Incidentally, when there’s not much to do in showbiz, Diether Ocampo does advocacy for Greenpeace and PETA.
He is probably in his late 20’s now, but when he was younger, Dave Montelibano was the main attraction at a popular gay club. He was popular with showbiz patrons then; in fact, the buzz at that time was that he was the favorite boy of a well-known publicist, star manager and showbiz talk show host in a major network. This short Chinese mestizo guy also did a couple of B-movies, namely Mga Babae sa Isla Azul and Miss, Gabi Na. Nothing was heard from him since then.
